Welcome to SafeBoda !
These knights in orange armor ride with one goal: to solve the problem of road safety in Kampala.
In a city without any public transport, where traffic jams are the norm, boda bodas (mototaxis) are the fastest way to get around town. But they have a bad reputation, and with reason. Only 30% of drivers and 1% of passengers wear helmets, and boda boda accidents make up 40% of all trauma cases in Kampala's hospitals.
SafeBoda selects and trains boda boda drivers in safe driving, and provides them with a reflector jacket and two helmets - one for them, and one for their passenger. Customers can hail a SafeBoda in the street, or book a ride via the call center or the smartphone application.
By integrating the drivers to a community with a reputation for safety, SafeBoda makes them responsible of their and each other's driving. And the system is proving its worth: an increasing number of users are trusting SafeBoda day by day!
We took the opportunity to interview French-speaking cofounder Maxime Dieudonné on the subjects of safety and community.
